  • Data right now:

    Finding the right data at the right price can be a daunting experience. An employee might get help with travel arangements to save $500 dollars on an airline ticket. Do they get the same help to prevent losing $20,000 by starting negotiations from a weak pricing point? Are employees spending as much time finding data as using data? Are they doing redundant searches without knowing it?

    Examples of work:

    • Summarizing and analyzing the prices charged by the competition of a startup's new product.
    • During contract negotiations, finding the new customers' product prices (which the negotiators wouldn't provide), preventing the sales representative from starting too low.
    • During proposal preparation, finding the potential customer's average unit costs and the competitions' price structure.

  • Data for the future:

    Does your company have to buy reports at the last minute because the data just wasn't there ahead of time? Why wasn't it already in your company, ready for use? If your main expert on a topic is out sick, will others know who else to turn to?

    Examples of work:

    • Researching the data requirements of and data sources used by workers throughout a company, using interviews and surveys.
    • Reviewing, recommending and purchasing services and reports, ensuring current and future data needs would be met.
